Comcast is organizing a Cable Broadband and IPv6 demonstration.  Our demonstration will include a scaled down yet functional version of what IPv6 may look like in a cable environment.

More specifically you can expect to observe the following as part of the demonstration:

* IPv6 enabled hosting
* Video and content distribution over IPv6
* Dual stack CPE
——————————————
* Dual stack access network (CMTS)
* Dual stack capable provisioning
* IPv6 cable modems
* Dual stack load balancing
* Dual stack caching DNS
* Dual stack web servers
* Dual-Stack Lite : an IPv6 transition bridge

We wanted to make sure that you were aware of the demonstration and if you were not planning on attending perhaps you would reconsider.  If you will be at NANOG46 please email me directly so we can schedule some time for you to try the demonstration.

Philly Cheesesteaks

This is always a difficult thing to address, given that everyone has their favorite! But Gridskipper put together a list of places to check out here. My own two cents: Pat’s and Geno’s are located right next to each other, so you could try both at once. But these are also major tourist attractions, so often busy and a popular spot though a bit remote. Jim’s is on South Street, which is easy to find and is in a shopping / dining district so that there’s other stuff to do nearby. Sonny’s and Campo’s are at 2nd and Market Streets, which means it is just a 15 minute walk from the NANOG venue, so probably worth trying for that reason alone. They are also located in Old City, a very popular drinking and dining area.

When trying a cheesesteak, consider whether you want cheese and what kind. Some folks get Cheese Wiz (aka wiz), of which I am not a fan. There’s also usually Provolone (my choice) and American — or no cheese at all. You should also decide if you want sauteed onions or not. And then you decide if you want it with Italian sauce (aka a Pizza Steak = provolone + sauce) or not. If you do not get sauce, people either put ketchup on the steak, or go without anything extra. You can of course get lots of other toppings, from mushrooms to peppers, but these are your major choices.

Common orders:
1 - Cheesesteak with onions and cheese wiz
2 - Cheesesteak with onions and provalone
3 - PizzaSteak with onions

Yum…

Comcast Welcomes Attendees of NANOG46 to Philadelphia

April 14th, 2009 by John
Respond

Welcome to Philadelphia, home of Comcast and the 2008 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies and from June 14-17, host city for the 46th meeting of the North American Network Operators’ Group (NANOG).

I’m looking forward to participating in this conference with you and engaging with some of the world’s leading experts in the field of network operations. With several hundred subject matter experts sharing their ideas through presentations, panel discussions, debates and collegial conversations, this will be a unique opportunity to share information and work towards pioneering solutions to challenges faced by many Internet network operations teams.

While you’re here, I’d encourage you to get a taste of the Philadelphia we know and love — from our world-famous cheesesteaks and soft pretzels to the many historical and cultural attractions that make our City special.  And, if you’re up to the challenge, you can recreate Rocky Balboa’s memorable run up the Art Museum steps.

Hope to see you in June.

Bye for now,
John Schanz
EVP, National Engineering and Technical Operations, Comcast
